Opening Day Highlighted With Injuries- 3/2/17

 

Pittsburgh 2B - Sammy Berroa left the opener after just 2 at bats with a hamstring injury and was placed on the 15 day DL. His replacement Douglas Bennett misplayed a routine grounder in the  6th inning which allowed the game to be tied on a 2 run triple with the next at bat. Pittsburgh went on to lose the opener 9-7 to the defending champs.

The bigger news was in San Francisco where the Pelicans SP Magglio Avila left the game after just 3.2 innings with a  torn labrum and will miss the next 3 months. Avila is in year number 2 of a 4 year deal.

Boston Has Impressive Spring

 

After failing to failing to make the play-offs in either year, the Back Alley Bombers had a great spring going 14-4 to lead all teams. They also led the league with a .325 BA and an OPS of .906. Are the Bombers ready to make some noise as opening day approaches?

Meanwhile after falling short in the fall classic last season, the Monterrey Vatos Locos led the league with 39 HR's. Are they ready to repeat as AL champs?
